Another collection of true stories by members of Scottish Saltire Branch of the Aircrew Association

In this, our third book of aviation experiences contributed by members of the Scottish Saltire Branch (Edinburgh, Glasgow & Lothians) of the Aircrew Association, we include another selection of sixty remarkable stories drawn from their collective memory, looking back over more than 60 years from the dark days of World War II to the present.

Continuing in a similar vein to the previous two books, Well... You Wanted to Fly and 60 Aviation Experiences, this book covers a lot of ground, both literally and metaphorically, as its various contributors take us for a trip down memory lane and around the globe, to far-off times and far-flung places.

They recall a wide variety of airborne adventures in an equally wide variety of aircraft, from the piston-engined classic warplanes of the Second World War to the post-war age of fast jets and helicopters. The experiences they describe include wartime bombing raids, escape and evasion, airborne rescues and much else – in locations as far apart as the Scottish Highlands, the Maldive Islands and the Bermuda Triangle.

There are also tributes to a number of notable individuals, including fondly remembered former members of  the Association who are sadly no longer with us and members of the wartime French resistance, whose selfless bravery enabled hundreds of Allied airmen who had been shot down over enemy occupied Europe to evade capture and make their way home via escape lines.

Anyone with more than a passing interest in 20th-century history in general and the history of aviation in particular is guaranteed to find a great deal to entertain them within these pages.
